As we prepare to finally launch the Romans, we want to take the opportunity to spotlight Paul Flores, who was the one of the original Gas Powered Games developers of Age of Empires Online and the architect of the original version of the Romans. As we have discussed at length, our Romans draw heavily on Paul’s original concepts, though we had to make a number of significant changes to them. For the last couple of years, Paul has generously given us his time off and on to guide us along our journey developing the next civilization in AoEO. Never underestimate the luxury of having an expert to bounce ideas off.

Legendary, Elite and Repeatable Quest Difficulty Levels

A recent look at our logs showed that a surprising number of our players spend most of their time playing everything but Legendary Quests. A closer look to the Legendary Quest rewards and comparing them with original Legendary Quests showed us that the Celeste Quests' rewards were very disorganized and all over the place. We have went ahead and classified all end-game Quests based on their difficulty (and adjusted Legendary Quests' rewards based on both their difficulty level and their cooldown timer, as you will see below.)...

Hello there Celeste players! The Halloween Event is finally here.

Once the Event starts (00:01 UTC 2020/10/23), go to your Empire Store in your Capital City and find all the new quests for the event. You don't need to update your game.

You can find every detail regarding what's new in the event in the attached graphics! We hope that you all have lots of fun playing with friends during the event. :)

We have a couple of objectives with our seasonal events. First, we want to inject excitement into the calendar to break up the year a bit and keep players coming back. Second, we want to use each event’s temporary nature to our advantage as little development laboratories to experiment without committing to anything long term. In this way, events are quite different than every other piece of content we add, all of which is envisioned to remain in the game forever.

PF2K's Personal Note: This is my favorite part of the patch! It's so good.
The way almost every upgrade works in AoEO is that the upgrade value gets added to the current stats of units, on a percentage-based system. While this is an excellent way to balance them, it can sometimes be confusing for players to know which upgrades have been researched by the opponent. Now you don't have to worry about this anymore!

Hi everyone!

Today we are announcing the release of Celeste Launcher 3.1.1.

This is the final release marking the completion of the redesign of the launcher. Before this release, we have been through a number of iterations involving beta testing of the redesigned launcher.

It is by no means a complete re-write, but the entire user interface has been redesigned. Version 3.1.1 is the new Celeste Launcher!

  • Bonus Damage vs Buildings reduced to 25%, from 50%.
> Balance Team's Comment: Prodromos are one of the hardest hitting Cavalry Units in the game. In the lategame, this bonus damage combined with the additional damage that they receive from Armory Upgrades, especially considering that Armory Upgrades don't affect Buildings, meant that the Damage output of these units against buildings was a little too much. This change aims to address this issue, while still giving them extra damage against Buildings.​

This is something that has been a point of confusion for many new players. The Celts are the only civilization that have access to a crafting school exclusive to them. This makes it so that players would ideally want to have this crafting school alongside one more, since each civilization can learn up to a maximum of 2 crafting schools.

This change aims to help reduce this confusion and to better guide players towards making their crafting school choices.

It's the middle of summer, the sun is hot, the Summer Event is late, the Romans are slow, the blog is overdue, COVID is in full bloom, and everyone's a little edgy. PF2K is taking a much deserved vacation of indeterminate length, so I have appointed myself this week’s messenger. Rather than pretend to fake PF2K's graphics, we are going to do an old fashioned mailbag episode. I asked players on discord, the forum, and in the game to submit questions. Then I answered a bunch and spread a few of them around the horn to get some other Devs out of their shells. (I took some editorial liberties to revise some of their quotes, so apologies in advance.)

Also, I am super jammed up in real life this week and flat-out in the Romans (I still don't have my Quest Giver lines finalized). To cut corners and time, I didn't send all questions to all Devs. So Devs, please add more answers below!

We have assigned them all Quest Givers, experience points, rewards, and laid out a working map of the complicated order that each quest is unlocked.

Recently, we have been firmly entrenched in that late-stage of development where the civ feels almost totally finished but yet we are struggling under the weight of a near endless punchlist of details. That fidgeting feeling of constant tinkering and polishing.

> Balance Team's Comment: As the most specialized anti-Cavalry Cavalry Unit in the game, Prodromos demolish other Cavalry units in Age III with ease. However, we feel like they die too easily to other Units. This change should help them a bit with that, whilst keeping their hitpoints less than other Units of the same type from other civilizations.
