As we develop the Romans, we are showing you how we are building them, who is building them, and also why we are building them the way that we are. Though we have finally revealed every Roman Unit, Building, and Technology, we are continuing to present all of their miscellaneous extra features as we design them.

We don't have anything big this week, so let's just check in on everyone and see what's going on.

Up first, Happy Smurf has been busy working on the City of Rome. He hosted a Developer stream on Monday where he streamed his modeling of the Imperial Palace, which is going to amount to a cluster of unique buildings and monuments unique to that region. He plans another stream this Monday and hopes to work his way to the Circus Maximus. Tune in and feel welcome to ask him any questions you have.

Happy Smurf has also been busy in other areas. From...

Though we have finally revealed every Roman Unit, Building, and Technology, we are continuing to present all of their miscellaneous extra features as we design them.

This week, both the 3D team and the Quest Design team have continued to work on the Roman Campaign Questline. The 3D team has all but finished the modelling for the three Capital City decorations that will be rewarded to players as they complete specific quests. (You will recall that players unlock three different decorations during each of the Greek, Egyptian, and Celtic Questlines. So the Romans will be no different.)

We have no idea what decorations the original Developers would have used, so we used our best judgment. Perhaps the most famous kind of Roman monument for honoring success in battle was the Triumphal...

Though we have finally revealed every Roman Unit, Building, and Technology, we are continuing to present all of their miscellaneous extra features as we design them.

The Development team has spent this week working on various projects. Chaos and Happy Smurf have been focusing on Capital City Buildings and decorations. Phillus has been working on various unit animations. Meanwhile, the rest of us have been working on the Roman campaign.

RecoN and PF2K have been finalizing the Tutorial Campaign. These are a series of very simple quests that will bring Roman players to Level 3. At that point, the Main Questline will open up and quickly splinter into several different directions with Challenge Quests, Naval Quests, Side Quests, Crafting Quests...

Though we have finally revealed every Roman Unit, Building, and Technology, we are continuing to present all of their miscellaneous extra features as we design them.

Last week, we were thrilled to officially announce that the Romans will indeed start at level 1 and will be launching with a proper dedicated campaign. Short of releasing the Roman civ itself, a Roman-themed quest pack is easily our most requested feature. Though we still remain bogged down these days in the minutia of the Romans, we finally agreed this week to make room for our quest design team to produce a Roman quest pack in time for release. Though most of our Developers are way too busy to worry about quests right now, we are so fortunate to have such a large and talented team of volunteers eager to spread...

As we develop the Romans, we are showing you how we are building them, who is building them, and also why we are building them the way that we are. Though we have finally revealed every Roman Unit, Building, and Technology, there is something that we would like to share you that greatly impacts the future of the Romans.

We all know that the world is going through some difficult times these days, and people are mostly encouraged to remain in the safety of their homes. This includes us, the team working on the Romans.

In light of recent events, we have decided to make the Romans even greater and are very excited to announce that the Romans will no longer be a pro civ. This means that they will start at level 1 and will give players the full Age of Empires Online experience.

As you already know, consistency is something of utmost value to us, so rest assured that the Roman...

Hello there Celeste players!

We had a pretty big patch yesterday, and we are going over what's been added with it in this Blog. We would also like to show you some updates on some of the Roman Units.

Quick Play Menu
================

QuickPlay_UI_Showcase.png

One of the most complex things in Age of Empires Online (particularly for new players) is all the various game modes in the game being spread out in different regions.

For most of us veterans knowing which game mode is located where isn't all that difficult, but for newer players, this can become really confusing really fast. The main purpose of this new interface is unifying all of those game modes into one, easily accessible menu so that you can access any game mode at any time, from any region.

Hello there Celeste players, we are back with another blog. This time we'll be having another look at the upcoming Quest Pack, "The Adventures of Brennos and Comontorios"!

In this Quest Pack, you will face many foes. The Helvetti and Oxubii tribes are back and more relentless than ever!

Let's have a closer look at some of the enemies you will be facing during your adventures:

Meet_the_Champions_-_1_-_Divico.png

Divico, is the very first Helvetti commander you will see. Wielding an axe made of pure Gold, he lays waste to his enemies without mercy. Think twice before getting close to him, as his cleave attack will quickly send your Units to their demise.

Meet_the_Champions_-_2_-_Orgetorix.png

Orgetorix is the local Helvetti king. The icy mountains have hardened him and his people and his two-handed Sword has slain many foes in the past, and now it thirsts for the blood of your army!

Header-RAAC.png

Hey there Celeste players! We are bringing you another community contest. This time, you will be helping us redesign Chieftain Combutis - an Age II Advisor. Why does this Advisor need a redesign, you ask? It is because he has the exact same effect as Odysseus, an Age I Advisor, awarded to all players when they defeat him in the Skirmish Hall.

Since the previous reworks for the Advisors have been very well received, we are open to more reworks for remaining not-so-useful Advisors such as this one.

If you have any suggestions for how this Advisor should be changed, let us know in the comments section below!

If you need some examples, you can see how the other Advisors have been reworked HERE

You can also find a list of all current Advisors HERE...

This week, we are revealing the Roman Advisors that will be launching with the civ.

Roman Advisors
===============

Each of the original six civs have three Legendary Advisors plus at least three non-Legendary Advisors that are exclusive to each civ. Therefore, we are creating that many Roman Advisors. Though the exact details are subject to change, we do not expect many changes:

As we develop the Romans, each week are revealing them to you building by building, unit by unit, and technology by technology. We are not just showing you what the Romans will be, but showing you how we are building them, who is building them, and also why we are building them the way that we are. This week, we are putting the capstone on the core Roman civilization by presenting their Age 4 Officer Unit, who is arguably the most Roman of all Romans, the Primus Pilus, who has a Build Limit of just one unit at a time. We are also showing you the Roman Inland Terrain Set, which is what you will see on the Roman Capital City and most Roman Themed Quests.

Design Blog #3: Tech Design Theory

  • 5,490

Before we could create even one Roman Technology, we had to decide what Technologies the Romans will have. Previously, we discussed how we approached designing the Roman buildings HERE, and Roman units HERE. Now we are going to show you how we designed their Technologies.

======
As with Buildings and Units, we started our work by looking at other civilizations' Technologies.

Since the Tech Tree rework of the Summer 2012 update, every civilization has exactly 52 points to spend on their Tech Tree by the time they reach Level 40, so we needed to have exactly 52 obtainable Technologies for the Romans as well. But before we get to that, let's have a look at what types of Technologies are there in Age of Empires Online; As you know, each civilization...

We are not just showing you what the Romans will be, but showing you how we are building them, who is building them, and also why we are building them the way that we are. This week, we are revealing our final core Building, the Wonder. We are also announcing the Roman Milestones.

Wonder
========
Without further ado, we are pleased to present the Roman Colosseum (proper name: the Flavian Amphitheatre).

Roman_Wonder.png

Wonders in Age of Empires Online are buildings which stand as civilizations' most memorable legacies. (either in architectural brilliance or religious/political/military significance). They are also a victory condition in PvP (and if you so choose, Wonder Victory Mode Skirmish matches.). Even though they might not be...

We are not just showing you what the Romans will be, but showing you how we are building them, who is building them, and also why we are building them the way that we are. This week, we are revealing the Aquilifer, which is a Roman Officer available in Age 3. We are also revealing the new Gear category available to some Roman units, the Banner. Finally, we will review the entirety of the Romans’ Age 3 and see how it all ties together.

Celeste Launcher 3.0 Beta 2 Release

  • 23
It is a new year, and with that we have also made some progress on the new and redesigned launcher. We received a lot of good feedback from the previous beta and much of it have made its way into the new launcher already. We have now finally reached a milestone in development where all of the planned UI components have received a fresh, new look. Therefore, we think it is time for another beta release where we invite the community to try out the new features in our new and improved launcher.

You can download the new launcher beta release here.

Again, we would want to emphasize this is not a final release of the launcher and it still represents work in progress. We highly appreciate any feedback you provide to us through either the forums, Discord, or on...

We are not just showing you what the Romans will be, but showing you how we are building them, who is building them, and also why we are building them the way that we are. Scorpio

Rome was known for its siege engines, and the Scorpio has always been one of the most famous. It is a small, ranged siege weapon somewhat of a cross between a giant crossbow and a small ballista that sits atop a wooden stand.

From a civ design perspective, the Scorpio appeared in all known drafts of the Romans, so we always...
