It is very easy to beat the Bay of Bengal quest even solo, provided you use consumables…here’s how:

In the Bay of Bengal quest, you need to protect the wonder at the south end of the map for 20 minutes. There are only 4 green towers protecting the wonder at the start of the game. As an option, you receive a bonus if you lose no more than one of the green towers. The wonder sits on the edge of the shore and will be attacked by ships from the south, and enemy units from the north (if they get past you tower defense).

Advisor Setup:

First off, it is all about guard towers. As a matter of fact, you don’t even make any soldier units until about 15 minutes into the quest. So, choose your advisors to maximize your tower’s defense. Here is the advisor setup that I think works best.

  • Apprentice Mason Philon – Villagers build 20% faster
  • Stalwart Lieutenant Panhsj – Guard towers deal 30% more damage
  • Commander Bolgios – Guard towers build 40% faster and cost 20% less
  • Darius – Guard towers can attack and see 30% farther.
These advisors work for all civilizations except for the Celts. The Celts have really crappy guard tower and can be upgraded only once, while most other civilization have two guard tower upgrades. (Persia also only has one guard tower upgrade, but their towers are better than the Celts). However, the developers gave us an optional upgrade for the Celt’s guard towers. The Celts have a civilization specific advisor that can be used as advisor 3. The advisor King Bathanatos grants the Celt guard towers a 15% faster attack rate AND allows the guard towers to be upgraded two addition times for a total of 3 upgrades. This makes the Celt guard tower the best guard tower in the game.

Consumables:

In order to be able to easily finish the Bay of Bengal quest sole, you will probably want to use several consumables. The consumables can be purchased in the Empire Store in your capital city. I use the following consumables:

  • Laborers of the Empire – Summons 12 villagers and cost 58.33 empire points.
  • Resources of the Empire – Grants 5000 of each resource and cost 83.33 empire points.
  • Special Ability Cattle Rustler – Summons 5 cows for food. You can craft this consumable at a Craftsmen School in your capital city, or they can be purchased in the Global Marketplace for a few thousand gold coins.
This means that you will spend more empire points than you will earn playing the quest. The recommended consumables cost a total of 141.66 empire points to complete the quest, but the quest only rewards you with 100 empire points upon completion. However, if you play the quest when the city Patalputra is in legendary bonus, you will actually earn more empire points than you spend on consumables. But really, I play the quest to earn the 5 star treasure chests and the gold coin (which I spend at Braham’s Lottery to earn either the Bahram’s Brisk Boots or Bahram’s Best Battle Armor).

Strategy and Build Order:

Here is the build order and strategy I follow during the quest.

When playing the quest solo, your starting base is on the west side of the map. The enemy fort and spawn location is at fort at the far north end of the map, and green wonder at the south end of the map. The secret to winning this quest is to erect a wall at a choke point halfway between the enemy fort and the green wonder, and then to build many towers behind the wall for defense. You will also need to erect many towers surrounding the green wonder.

As soon as the quest begins, send your scout and your first 5 villagers to the middle of the map about half way between the enemy fort and green wonder.

Immediately press the advance to age 2 button in your starting town center.

Use the Laborers of the Empire consumables to summon 12 villagers. Send 6 villagers to build a storehouse just south of your town center near the forest. Make sure this storehouse is also fairly close to the gold mine. Send 1 villager to build 3 houses and then to the gold mine.

Use the Special Ability Cattle Rustler to summon 5 cows and locate them close to your town center. Take your remaining 5 villagers to harvest food from the cows. As an alternative, if you don’t want to use this consumable, you can task these remaining 5 villagers to harvest food from the berry bushes located near your town center.

By now your scout should have reached the center of the map. Locate the stone mine at the center of the map. You will need to harvest this stone so you will want to build your defensive wall just to the north of this stone mine. As soon as your 5 villagers arrive, task them to building the defensive wall. As soon as you have a small portion of the wall built, click on it and upgrade the wall. I also put a gate in the center of the wall. As soon as your villagers finish building the wall task them to build two guard towers on the south side of the wall near its center. After the guard towers have been built, send your 5 villagers to construct a storehouse near the stone mine and begin collecting stone. Send your scout to fully explore the entire map south of the wall you just built.

By about this time, you should have acquired the necessary materials (400 food, 400 wood & 400 gold) to level up to age 3. Press the button to begin to level up to age 3.

Stop your villagers from gathering materials and position them to start building as soon as you reach age 3. Send 3 villagers to the green wonder so that they are in position to start building towers as soon as your reach age 3. Send 3 villagers to the far east side of the map near some stone to be in position to build a new town center. Send 2 villagers just to the north of your town center to build a wall at that opening. Your remaining 4 villagers can continue to chop wood until you reach age 3, they will build another town center south of your initial town center, near a forest.

Here is where it gets hectic. But here is a big hint. On solo quest you can press F10 as many times as needed to pause the game. While the game is paused, you can assign villagers to different tasks and then unpause the game by pressing F10 again.

As soon as you reach age 3, immediately use the Recourses of the Empire consumable and then press the button to begin to level up to age 4.

Have the 4 villagers you left behind chopping wood at your initial town center build a second town center just south of your original town center, but near a forest.

At the wall in the center of the map where you built your wall and towers, upgrade the towers and then upgrade the walls.

Have your initial five villagers near the wall start building towers behind the wall. You want to get at least one row of towers up as soon as possible. When your run out of stone, send the villagers back to the stone mine. Build a second, third and fourth row of towers behind the wall as you acquire the materials. Leave an opening in the row of towers near the gate in the center. You will need to send troops through the gate later in the quest.

By now the 3 villagers you sent to the green wonder should have arrived. Begin building towers all around the perimeter of the wonder, start on the south side. Also, to make sure you don’t lose any green towers, occasionally task one of the villagers to repairing the green towers.

Once the 3 villagers you send to the far east side of the map arrives, have them build a third town center near some stone and trees. After these 3 villagers finish the third town center, have them build a fourth town center near some trees. Then have these villagers build house to support your growing population.

Have the 2 villagers you sent just to the north of your town center to build a wall at that opening. If you forget to wall off this opening your will be attacked by monkeys. After the wall is finished build two towers behind the wall, then build a storehouse near the stone mine.

At this point your second town center should be up. Que up some villager to chop wood. Take the 4 villagers that build this second town center and have them construct the following buildings: market, two armories, and your civilizations special building. (Most civilizations have a special building that give upgrades: Greek – Academy, Celt – Bard Hall, Persia – War Academy, Rome – Forem, Babylon – Ziggurat, Norse – Great Hall, & India – Monastery).

Que up villager production in all four town centers and caravan production in your market until you have about 100 villagers. Make sure you have built all your house to support this population growth.

As resources permit do all the armory upgrades and the upgrades for your civilizations special building.

As resources permit, build about 8 towers near your original town center. I build them at about the 5 o’clock position from the town center. You need these towers, because sometime around the 6-minute mark, a transport ship drops off about 8 monkeys to attack your base. These towers also help attack ships as they pass by on this side of the map on their way to attack the wonder. You can also build some towers on the west side of the map near the water, to attack the ships on this side of the map that pass by on their way to attack the wonder.

At about 12 minutes into the quest, start building about 12 buildings that can produce military units. Since you will mostly be attacked by elephants, spearmen work well, so build lots of barracks. Upgrade the spearmen at the barrack, and then begin producing them, and send them outside the wall. You will need to make about 100 spearmen, and be constantly replacing the ones that are killed. By the way, spearmen are not the only unit you can use. For example, for the Greek, the Prodromos work well, for the Persians the Immortals do very well, and for the Babylonians the Lancers do well.

The enemy’s big attack comes at about 18 minutes into the quest (2 minutes until the end of the quest). So at about 17 minutes into the quest start killing off villagers so that you can make more spearmen. The big attack happens simultaneously at the north wall and south at the wonder by ships, so make sure all your towers are in good repair.

After the 20 minute mark and you have won the quest, it is not over yet. Two groups of monkeys (club monkeys & fire monkeys) attack your northern wall. After you defeat the monkeys, you can collect up the four treasure chests located on the map. One chest is located just north or your wall, the other to the west of the first chest, but still on your land mass. The final two chest are located on islands, so you will need to build transport ships to reach these chests. The third chest is on an island to the east of the main land mass, and the final chest is located on an island to the north-west of the main land mass. Because of there locations, it usually takes an additional 5 minutes to gather up all the chests. So about 25-27 minutes total for the quest.
