Weekly Blog #25: Engineer, Millarium

Hmmm... Reading the beginning of the article, I was more expecting engineers being healers but for buildings. They would make buildings around it auto-heal within a certain radius or even have a better armor.

I thought it would be more similar to shields generators in star wars galactic battleground as well

This was what I had in mind as well although what they seem to have decided on seems fun and intuitive as well. That said, i could easily see myself skipping them altogether in PvE games.

I'm sure this concept can work with the right numbers and it sounds fun. Only thing I'm a bit confused about is the bonus vs siege assuming they're melee and not fast nor tanky, but I guess it can be useful against siege rams sometimes.

Hmm.... If I convert an enemy Engineer, can I build my own Millariums with him to buff my own non-roman units?

We have thought about that mechanic for aging up before. The problem with that is that it forces the civilization to be played in quite a one-dimensional way in the early game. For example, if the Romans required 20 population to age up, you could never go for a fast Age 2 play, which, for example (just off the top of my head) could be devastating in maps like Coastal, where you need to get a War Ship out as quickly as you can.

Nice ideas though! I appreciate the time you spent writing them.

Yeah, I realized after the fact that the talk about a different age up mechanic was actually started by me when speculating regarding the engineer. Woops. Exhibit A on "how rumors and untruths get started and spread."

But yeah, that totally makes sense, I wasn't convinced that the Romans had to have a unique age up mechanic, just was confused and thought it had been said that they would. But alas, I was wrong, I put that idea in my own head. :D
