Hey folks,
Was wondering what other players or the devs would think about adding a unit akin to petards and demolition ships from AoEII, or banelings from Starcraft 2 (widow mine-esque units might be a bit far-fetched though
). I think they make for really exciting, high risk-high reward gameplay (especially if the splash can hit friendlies!).
Obviously they would need to have counters (though being a slow infantry unit would leave them open to cost effective singling out from archers and anti infantry cavs. Making them play around speed upgrades ala sc2 banelings could work well imo). If they could be placed in the tech tree as an age2 tech without being too strong or cheap, they could be a good counter to early infantry rushes, early towers aggro or defensive, and poorly positioned mass archery range tech comps. To stop them being used in mass all-ins you could always look at making them take 3pop or take 1-2 as well as have a unit limit like war dogs/tcs/houses have.
Would make PvP very edge of your seat at the higher levels, and make clearing static D or holding in missions where the ai has a huge macro advantage in bigger PvE maps less of a pain in the a**.
Gimme your thoughts on splash spread, costs and unit limits cause that stuff's way out of my depth.
