I have to say I am very impressed by the unit targeting system in aoe online. When you bring together a group of archers to enemy group, not all of them attack the closest enemy which would be overkill. Even aoe4 doesn't have it. And I can see why they dont use it because when you gather more than 40-50 unit group, targeting takes a bit more time, possibly hardware related.
I would like to ask not directly the source code but a brief explanation how it works? Don't worry, I'm not planning to re-write the code 10 times better in rust. Im just curious
And my suggestion is if melee units also using the same targeting system, change them to regular - attack closest - to gain process time. Or add a button for optional unit behaviors. Btw I know messing with core mechanics of the game is a risky move, but its just a suggestion.
