The Northern Hold quests of Defending/Reclaiming/Conquering Cities can be very hard in solo-play and requires a lot of hand-eye coordination! Luckily this guide will help makes things easy.

First, choose your Civilization. Each Civilization has access to a "counter-infantry, counter-ranged, and counter-cavalry." They do not specifically have to be the same unit type to counter themselves as you can see in some cases. I'll also rate the difficulties. You begin 2 of each unit as you begin your quest.

    Civilization Difficulty Infantry Ranged Cavalry
    Greeks Wholesome [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
    Egyptians Easy [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
    Persians Wholesome [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
The Celts Wholesome [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
    Babylonians Easy [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
The Norse Hard AF [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
Romans Easy AF [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Now select your advisors! You can only select up to Age 3 Advisors from Age 1. So choose wisely!

    Recommended Age 1 Advisor Options
    [IMG] [IMG]
Lucky Lookout Leucon: Scouts move faster, are more resistant to pierce damage, and have more health. (Vemundr and Beorix are counted as Scouts). Ask a Level 40 Friend to buy them in Rome for you! General Leonnorios: Spearman gains bonus damage (only applicable if your Civilization above can field spearmen).

    Recommended Age 2 Advisor Options
    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
Lord Eochaid Muighmedon: All upgrades cost less gold! (Units excluded here sadly). Herbal Healer Hyginus: Infantry can regenerate health. King Narmer: Cavalry can regenerate health. Trainer Conall: Infantry, Ranged, and Cavalry can regenerate health.
    [IMG] [IMG]
Professor Socrates: Identical to Lord Eochaid Muighmedon, but research faster as well. Courageous Colonel Lycurgus: Spearmen become more resistant to melee-cavalry damage and splash damage.
Camel Rider Userhet: Camel Riders deal more damage, deal more bonus damage against cavalry units and have more health.
The Persians, the Celts, Romans, Babylonians, and the Norse have no recommended Civilization-specific Age 2 Advisors.
    Recommended Age 3 Advisor Options
    [IMG] [IMG]
Horse Whisperer Lohrasb: Cavalry is more resistant to melee-infantry damage. Camel Whisperer Hathor Cavalry is more resistant to pierce damage and deal bonus damage vs ranged.
Lucius Licinius Lucullus: Eques has more health.
    [IMG] [IMG]
Harjar Commander Havard: Harjars are resistant to pierce, crush, and splash damage. Bear Hunter Torhild: Skirmishers attack farther and move faster.
The Greeks, Egyptians, the Celts, and Babylonians have no recommended Civilization-specific Age 3 Advisors.

Now how do you play the maps? Use your hero to capture towers and treasury. Slowly build up a composition of infantry+cavalry or ranged+cavalry or infantry+ranged. Your hero unit can deal with the massive influx wave of units. Don't be too attached to getting all the Victory Towers early and most importantly... don't let the enemy divide and conquer your defenders. Your defenders only need to survive long enough for the bulk of your army to arrive in time.

Cooperate with a partner, the quest gets much easier! There's not really much to say!
