Map Design Vignette Challenge 2021

Intro

Hey (x2) People ! Welcome back to a new season of the map design contest.

A while back we had our first scenario design contest, and it was quite a success. That design contest [click here see previous design contest] was quite a while back and i think it is time for another stab at it.

The idea is that on a very small template of just 40x40 each player will design a map that is suppose to look impressive. The are no limits to props or triggers, if the scenario editor allows for it, then it is fair game. Be creative, place those rocks smart, hide the odd bush under a fallen tree ... anything your imagination can spit out. There are no limits to what impressive is suppose to mean; you have the map as a static display or you give it life with triggers. It will be a work of art, ingenuity and hopefully fun for everyone !

How to sign up

In order to sign up you will need an ingame account and have the game to get into the editor and start hammering away.

Once you have all the presetting is out of the way, you will have to submit a map of a specific size and a picture of it that will contain the entire map. The submission will happen in this thread only for the first part of the contest. It must have your ingame name(so that we can track you down to send rewards and validate entry) , the .age4scn file (your work of art so that we can open it up and see your creativity in action), a screenshot to the best of your abilities that will highlight the entire map (yeah , flex that art !?) and optionally, your discord account name (so that we can contact you for further information in case anything happens with said submission).

How to set up the map

First you will have to open the game launcher and select offline from this menu:

Once you there, select "Scenario Editor":

In the scenario editor go to the top menu, click File and the select New:

In the menu that pops up, select size and scroll down till you see 40. Select 40 and then click on generate:

Once it is all said and done, you should see something like this:

If you managed so far , congratz ! You can now start brushing away like a little artist.

How are winners picked

Once all submissions are done we will look over all of them and select a number of 'em (number subject to the number of entries) that we consider the most well done scenarios(please understand that the judgment of beauty is very subjective but we will do our best to keep neutrality and make fair picks). The selected number of entries will then go through a second round of public voting. That is correct ... the creators of their scenarios will receive votes from the public !

Once everything is set , winner will be announced and prizes will be offered.

How long is the event going to last

The event starts the second this has been posted on the forum. The first round will take 1 month [the 20th of May until the 20th of June]. The hour of closure will be subjective, but we will announced the cut-off moment. After the cut-off for phase 1, submission will be cut and then a judging period will start.

Once the judges have decided on the best creations, they will announce the entries for phase 2. 1 Week will be allocated for public vote starting from the moment a new blog is posted that announced the judges selection.

Rewards

Well, welcome to the juicy part, i think ... the REWARDS. As this requires a somewhat of a dedicated effort we feel like we should not leave peoples effort unrewarded. The winners selected by the public in the second and last part of the event will be rewarded as following:

First place: Will receive a single famous [Zahhak's Sword of the Undying].

Second place: Will receive 2 [Arrows of the Ice King].

Third place: Will receive 3 [Ra's Wall Joints of the Solstice].

Rules

1. If a map is submitted that is either to large to small, the submission will be rejected
   
2. Only one entry per ingame account and per person is allowed. (multi account and any form of multiple entries will not be tolerated).
   
   
3. Entries that are missing any single one these:
   a) screenshot with the entire map
   b) the entire .age4scn file
   c) an associated account name
   d) map must be EXACTLY 40x40
   , will not be considered.
   
   
4. Clever triggers for UI enhancements are very much welcomed, but are NOT a must.
   
5. You are NOT allowed to make use of .quest files , loaders or any other external factors to enhance your work; your .age4scn file should stand on its own 2 feet.
   
6. Any entry after the end date will NOT be considered.
   
7. Probably the most important rule of them all, have fun ! This is about the journey, not the destination.
   
8. During the public phase, if your entry has been selected, you are allowed to make any number of self advertising ONLY within the community.
   
9. We reserve the right to remove any entry that is deemed inappropriate at any level.
   
10. Failing any of the above will invalidate the entry.

Final notes

Remember to have fun and not force yourself into this for the sake of a reward at end. This is a community driven challenge so we would like to not have to play good-cop/bad-cop. I understand that there is no exact standard of judging each individuals artistic vision, so please understand that the selection will have some un-avoidable human bias in it. Please understand that if you sign up, there are chances that your effort will not be consider and please consider this result, if it happens, in a mature way. If we consider that things derail we will cancel the event, but this community has been amazing so far and i think it will not come to this.
