I dunno how to say this short in order to sell my point good here, but I KNOW this is a very good suggestion to make the community become more social and to share the experience much more - not to say easier to teach beginners.I'm certain this would add VERY much to the social part of this community, likelly much more than most realize before they have seen it.

    My suggestion is this:
    - Make a system that makes it possible to spectate a friend when the solo a quest (or play coop), so that you i.e can view better player when they do a Legendary you can't survive.
    - I think it would be very nice if you could build like a Collusseum or something where you coud annonce that "I will play Legendary Paphos in coop with Friend #1 in a bit", and then you could click yourself in as a spectator for that and you would be drawn in and spectate when game launches (as it is when spectate PVP).
    - You should also in same place be able to see if someone is playing something now, and late join the game and look at it, either from start or from where it s atm (dunno what's possible to program here). On vobbly it works with late join on AoE2, but you have to look from start and can fast forward until you are in sync with where the game are at.
    - I think a collusseum solution would be VERY nice, and if possible there should be one such building in each city and it would be linked to the player, not the civ. Though you should be able to join and spectate just by right-click that person in chat or in friendlist (when that works) to "join and spectate" or "que for spectate" also, the later if the person has annonced "I will play this map....".

Note: If the collusseum solution seems to advanced (?), the primary idea is that it should be possible to spectate others even in PVE.

Background story for me, and the reason I make this suggestion. I'm an Age of Empire 1-2 player snice 1998, been clanleader since sometime around that year for the olderst and biggest swedish Age of Empire clan that was on the Zone (when it existed) and now on Vobbly (the new Zone for AoE 1+2 players). In our community we for many years met and chatted online (before voice were used) and we played games together, aslo very often we looked at eachother playing eachother (not always you got energy to play yourself). It was often more funny to watch the better players play eachoter than it was to play yourself. Or for that matter, to see two players meed that might be even not as good as yourself, but you wanna see who wins and who looses. Afterwards we often talked about the games, what was well done and not so good. Very nice and a kind of experience my suggestion that will come here has as goal to help implement into AoEo.

To explain my suggestion better I think I need to explain how voobly has done it, might even be a technical input for how to solve it for the programmers, though I'm not sure it's possible to do in same way since I dunno if game is made similar here.

Let's go back to AoE 2 first. That game had a "record game" feuture that made it possible to save your game, look at them yourself afterwards or send to friends. As a side point it would be nice if this was a feuture even AoEo had, and that you could have some kind of shop with your recordings on when you finished Marion Legendary solo with no gear, or whatever.

Technical: I was about to say how it works in Voobly. On voobly they many years back implemented to possibility to spectate other players by using this recorded game file that was uploaded in real-time to a server, and that other players could download and watch as the game progressed with VERY little lag. For more important games you could set an extra lag for some minutes for example so cheating with a friend giving intel would be less effective. I dunno how the spectate in PVP works in AoEo, if there are some similar "recorded game" file that's used for spectators - anyhow this is the funcion I wanna see working live with all players all the time (you should choose if people can watch you or not first of course).

Extra: If you want you can see a movie from my Age of Empires LAN I've had each year since 2002 on youtube, there is english sub if you activate it also:

First of all: Thank you for your suggestion. I fully agree that spectating is something that is very in demand. However there are some technical challenges.

The game engine is based on the AOE3-Engine, which has spectator-mode and recording-mode. We know that you can spectate an PVP arena game if you start connecting. However, as far as we know there is no way of connecting in the middle of a game. The recording-mode might still exist in the game somewhere as an artifact, but it was either removed or has not been optimized in the game.

We keep it in mind, but it is not high priority at the moment.

It's not the most important thing that you can "late join spectate" when it comes to this suggestion, it's just the "top of the line" version of the suggestion that can do that.

If you can spectate the best PVE'ers when they do a very hard Legendary I'm sure it would be a "bring forth the popcorn and let's have some fun" moment for many less skilled players. Also very more fun for them doing the questing when they got some attention and spectators that cheer on them. And REALLY good if you wanna teach someone some trix to the game, basic or elite level.

I funny understand that you have to que things up in order of importance, but with more good ideas and visions for the future the end-product might become extremelly much better :D
