Hey there everyone! The newest changes and adjustments to Advisors are now available!

Below you will find the details for each of the changes. Dedicated graphics for each of the changed Advisors will be added to this blog as soon as possible.

Important to note that the following balance changes have also gone live with these changes:

    Balance Changes:

    • Egyptian War Elephant: Movement Speed reduced to 8, from 9.
    • Elephant Archer: Projectile Track Rating increased to 16, from 15. Snare increased to 0.75, from 1.0. Max Spread Reduced to 1.25, from 2.0. Spread Factor reduced to 0.02, from 0.04. (meaning they are far more accurate now).
      • Affects both Egyptian and Indian Elephant Archers.
    • Persian Cataphract: DPS increased to 25, from 20.
    • Roman Decurion: DPS increased to 28, from 24.
    • Babylonian Royal Guard: Hitpoints increased to 340, from 320. Now has Baseline Pierce Armor increased to 0.20.

Note that these stats are for the Epic (or Legendary) rarity of the Advisors. Lower rarities have the standard scaling formulas applied to them.

These changes affect all existing and future instances of these advisors.

      Just putting my comments.
A welcome change that helps Greek players field a strong infantry army especially when there were past complaints about Greeks having a lackluster infantry advisor composition.
Can't help it if Greek Forts were included to also ignore 15% of enemy armor...
Not too sure about the implication... but maybe there's a possible priest synergy with Prince Sesoritis converting a mass infantry wave here? Not too sure about the buff...
The change seems like a positive change. Although I wish the wording was "Military units deal 20% more crush damage" so fire+catapult ship can also get buffed here :) for an age 3 slot.
Interestingly, this increases the health of all military units by 15%. Giving Khepri that universal military advisor vibe for Egypt. Also, +20 more population is very nice.
Made a note in the Discord, but just felt like another comment to see if other agrees. Wouldn't feel forced if the Sacred Deer were not freely spawned to avoid congesting rally points of a sacred grove's druid and augur. Maybe having Sacred Deer free would be a cool idea to keep (or remove and make sacred grove cost 75% less instead) since Celts already have access to an economic advisor age 2 in the form of Diviciacus now.
The implication of Divicacus is one of the greatest economic buff for a Celt's early economy. They will have less dependency on caravans and can constantly train a gold-hungry army. Keep this in mind: a Gold Deposit went from 3000 (no gold mine) -> 4500 (gold mine) -> 9000 (gold mine with Divicacus). It won't exactly destroy the caravan economy, but it definitely helps a lot to shine out the Celtic's historical gold industry!
This translates effectively into Carpentom dealing 50% more damage into buildings with their Ignore Armor, while Horsemen simply dealing 20% more damage per second overall. A quantity buff advisor into a quality buff advisor!

The legendary advisor buffing those two types of units also help to synergize with Cavarus as well. If the training time reduction was so desired, a Celtic player could use the Rite of Damara to reduce training time significantly.
Practically, this advisor was basically a spearmen advisor, but with a 50% damage change. The options really shine for them to be a very powerful spearmen advisor, but also opens up options for your longswordsmen, woad raider, and horsemen, should the occasion arise! (Slingers and Carpentoms are considered not so useful considering they have their own respective advisors that help them better and woad raiders should clean up any anti-ranged threats anyway). A very considerable mention is that Celtic siege will HIT VERY HARD now versus buildings.
A very powerful change, trade an age 2 advisor slot that is usually for caravans for one of the most powerful age 3 advisor slot for caravans.
From having weak universal military buffs to an advisor that significantly buffs typical sparabaras to stand against many units. I recommend this advisor to be used in Persia vs Roman enemies, where sparabaras can easily stand against anti-infantry Roman options with this advisor, while Bowmen and Takabara act as your backline.
This is a huge change, Bahram is now a universal military advisor that can act as essentially a Cataphract advisor (making them tankier and faster is preferred) or a pseudo-Esfandiyar advisor making your Immortals tankier and faster.
This advisor affects Fishing Boats, Merchant Transports, (and somehow Gatherer Elephants if you convert them). This makes them extremely fast, just think about the ways of Millarium optimization now!
I'm not too sure how I feel about this change, considering we had past advisors who used to apply similar effects like Socrates, who did the same for ONLY academy upgrades getting cheap. We also now have 2 Roman economic advisors for Age 2? I understand the reasoning that Timon technically did the same thing as Octavius until Age 4 is researched... either way, I don't have a proper idea to make Octavius interesting... [ [since just getting SPQR+Forum earlier when I can have Village Elder now... if I need the villagers buff that badly] than maybe making all Forum upgrades available an age earlier [making him a pseudo-Officer/Clinicus advisor]
I would like to argue that Mark Antony should buff all Auxilia Camp Units with +20% more damage and train in 20% less time since Senator Octavius no longer occupies this role, and I'm sure the ranged units of Romans love more damage. It also helped that he did historically serve in Spain and Greece, where the Baleric Slingers and Cretan Bowmen are based off anyway.
I see the vision here where a Babylonian player might want to rush to Age 3 as soon as possible.
A very appreciated change since Engineer Farzana occupies the Age 3 slot most of the time for this type of synergy.
A very desirable buff, Skirmishers no longer healing non-ranged units. Also, let Norse Ranged get access to Sohrab as well.
Very great. With this change, the Chief can tank quest bosses.
Shrine being able to produce gold again is a good direction.
An extremely strong effect. Rush to Age 4 for all those Choose-one upgrades to apply. A universal indian military advisor effectively.
Desired when you have to do those spearmen-only quests.
So think of all those annoying Age 2 only or Tower Rush quests, and now realize you can castle drop as early as possible on the enemy base.
Interesting change considering Elephant Archers will also snare too, does this open up to an Elephant Archer comp where an enemy attacker cannot move leaving room for them to be ideal?
This is more of a buff when you consider elite ships deal their damage some form of bonus damage as well. This is essentially a significant Batoshipip buff vs anti-ship enemies basically, although it does nerf your ship HP vs enemy towers+forts however.

No mention of pop. Does this mean you get more pop with the extra town center?

In my opinion it's feels more like slight nerfs to axe thrower comp, age 3 advisor don't let you take + 40% damage vs buildings.

Alright, so now if I put in Agvald back in for Age 3, then what do I put for Age 2 Throwing Axeman build?
Yeah you're losing the 40% building bonus damage advisor that was in my slot for Age 3.

Haven't being around in a while, but just wanted to pop on, say hi and that the advisor changes look cool, definitely seem stronger and even more impactful, will look forward to trying them out when I get time eventually. Especially Siege Tactician Titus, always being partial to quick strong rams :)

Hope you have all being keeping well

Great idea for an update, a refreshment of the advisors is very much welcome. Potentially a sizeable impact on playstyles and strategies at a cost of a relatively small pool of tweaks, that can be further adjusted down the line. It's great that such a system exists, and it's smart to put more spotlight on it and offload some pressure from the balance of the core civ units.

All AoE games should have that. The more ways to customise and adjust specific playstyle, the better.

I love this so much. Already been testing this and this newly boosted Titus is making my siege towers pleased in lower intensity content. I'll test harder content once I get practice in.

I very much like almost all of the changes! Only exception is:
      "Axe Thrower Agvald:
      • Old: Throwing Axemen can attack and see 50% farther
      • New: Throwing Axemen can attack and see 50% farther and gain a 15% chance to deal a critical strike
        • Additional Note: Moved to Age III, from Age II."
Question at first: Why is it moved to age 3?
It is "good" that you can use the advisor for wood gather houses. Nevertheless: In Thebes the Age 2 TA have 10 range, can't even reach the catapult on the cliff. In this quest i used this advisor for age 2.
Also: I would want to use Pamphilos or Walking speed Age 3 not the TA advisor.
If you want to have better TA i would rather sacrifice the wood gatherer houses. TA still feel not great. The change of the winter axe costed them a bit of clearly needed range!

      My only suggesstion to change:

      • Axe Thrower Agvald:

        • New: Throwing Axemen can attack and see 100% farther and attack 15% faster.
          • Additional Note: Moved to Age II, from Age III.
