I have come up with two ideas to improve military units in the game. One idea is a new gear that could be made to make elite units. The other idea is a way to make the epic advisor cards to be more worthy in the game.

The first gear idea is for soldiers' gear slots. Since this slot is to buff the stats of the military unit I thought a cool gear would be to make the unit train as an elite unit with the trade-off of having to train longer, cost more, and/or higher population count. This would add a cool dynamic for gearing civs. Balanced on making a bad choice for early game and a good choice for late game when production buildings and the economy is booming.

The other idea is to solve the issue with the epic advisors that give civs unique units to train at the fortress being pretty underwhelming for LVL 40 civs. Mainly due to you being unable to gear them. A cool way to make them not useless would be to train them as elite troops. There would be some balancing needing to be done... such as putting a cap on how many you can train and/or increasing train time/cost.

Making Advisor units significant stronger is a good idea imo. Even on easier leg quests they are a really bad option. Maybe they are okish when leveling up, which is irrational to me.

Not really sure about making a unit to become elite. I think with good gear, adv. And milestones the units are almost as good as elite already :)

Making units into elite units is a 2.2x boost to both damage and health. The only advisor that buffs units by a similar amount is Vemundr, where you boost War Dogs (Which have the lowest HP in the game), by 300% - A large boost, but overall balanced.

The power of elite units is why Converting Priests are banned on such a large number of more difficult missions - While it does take time to convert elites, especially compared to regular units, only a handful of massed units can reach the same power lvl as elite units in general - Thus, even if the elite units become completely naked, they'll generally have more combined health/damage then a non-elite unit of the same, even if your units are decked out in full BiS gear. And if you are the same civ (Roman on Roman legendaries), the boost is just absolutely gargantuan.

Any advisor that would allow you to make elite units would have to have significant downsides to it as well, such as a 500% cost increase to create those units, and/or even making the units take far longer to train.

As for advisor units - They tend to suck at later lvls, and are generally good in the early lvls. Headhunter Champions, for instance, are better then Horsemen until you get a significant amount of gear, and all 4 civs with advisor units have at least 1 such unit that's stronger then anything else you can get. This makes the early purchase of 1 a significant power boost and will allow you to transition into gearing your own units quite easily.

Additionally, if you make advisor units too strong, they suddenly replace the whole "gear up your civ" end-game. What's the point of getting strong elephants if Armored Elephants are stronger? Hell, Gaesatae are incredibly strong to someone who is a micro master due to their poison effect and high movement speed.

If the devs had infinite resources then buffing advisor units would be fine. However, there are only so many celeste devs, and they currently have their schedule busy with both India (Far more worthwhile then buffing a few advisor units for only 4 civs), and other backlogged features (Look at the "Coming Soon" placeholders on your log-in menu, that's 2 quest packs and 3 other features they have!). Thus, I feel that Advisor units should be left alone just as they are - Useful for lvling and niche quests, but otherwise ignored.
