offline skirmish is the fastest way to play some matches againts ai plus you can play as any civ but you are forced to play with a lv 40 civ with those golden/legendary gear and honestly i wish there was a way to disable it or play with a lv 20 civilization with standard gear instead in wich units reflect their portraits.now i can play against ai logged in but that presents two problems problem number one is that i cant play as any civ and problem number two is that i am gonna have to sit through 4 loading screens:first load the menu then load the capital city then load island of cyprus then the final loading screen, all in all its pretty cumbersome and sure aoeo celeste doesnt take forever to load but still it would be nice if we got at least the option to play without the golden/legendarygear in some form or another in offline mode.

If you press other while in the scenario select screen it will let you select a custom character file if you'd like. Unfortunately, customizing this requires doing several steps:
    1. Get a character file somewhere and put it in (whereever your AoEO folder is)/Age Of Empires Online/DATA/AI
You must create the AI folder in DATA manually. Afterwards, any .character file will be read by AoEO.
    2. Load up the scenario editor, select "Player Data" under "Scenario", press "Load Character" on Player 1. Yes, for some reason, you must customize gear through the scenario editor.
    3. Opening up "Trait Palette" under "Objects" will let you get gear. Search up gear of your choice, left click the gear on the selection screen, then left click the large icon of said gear again and it will add it in your inventory. Right clicking the gear will then let you place the gear on the character, or alternatively you can open the gear menu through clicking "Objects" then "Trait Editor".
